The GTP (Graduate Teacher Programme)

This is for graduates, who will have a degree in the subject they wish to teach, or in a closely associated discipline. The course will lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in line with other teacher training courses. Training lasts for 1 year in most cases. This is the programme, which we are running at Crown Hills.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The College can offer training leading to Qualified Teacher Status to applicants who meet the following entry requirements:

For the Graduate Teacher Programme - GTP

  • Grade C or above in Maths and English at GCSE (if you were born after 1979, you must also have a grade C at GCSE in a Science subject)
  • Relevant experience preferably with children or young people

A degree from a UK university or its equivalent The College can offer training leading to Qualified Teacher Status to applicants who meet the following entry requirements:

LENGTH OF COURSE
The minimum time allowed is 36 weeks and for the GTP the maximum is 1 year.
On the GTP you will receive a salary whilst training, which will be in the region of £14,000.

FEATURES OF THE COURSE
The training includes:

  • Subject specific training working closely with experienced members of staff in all aspects of planning, delivering and evaluating lessons
  • Practical experience and guidance in classroom management
  • The opportunity to undertake research in areas of educational thinking
  • Advice and guidance on all the broader aspects of a school career, such as dealing with children with special educational needs, home-school liaison, the role of the governing body, etc.
  • First class ICT training opportunities to meet the government’s teacher training regulations
  • Help and advice with the compilation of a portfolio of evidence to show that you meet all the standards in the government’s regulations for the award of Qualified Teacher Status.
  • A career entry development profile to take you into your first year as a newly qualified teacher
