Post 1: Cover Supervisor

POST TITLE: COVER SUPERVISOR

Grade: Teaching Assistant Level 3 Point 14 - 17

Salary: £14,787 - £15,825 (pro-rata)
                                               
Hours:8.15am – 3.30pm (Term Time only) 6.25 hours per day One hour for lunch(96% f.t.e.)

Line managed by: Cover Manager

Overall Purpose of the Post

To supervise prepared lessons in the absence of a class teacher, ensuring that in doing so the students’ learning and development is continued and maintained.

Specific Responsibilities
  • To ensure work set by teachers is completed
  • To ensure students behave in an appropriate manner.
  • To ensure Health & Safety regulations are adhered to.
  • To adhere to and promote the ethos, aims, policies and practices of the College.
  • To be pro-active in implementing Equal Opportunity policies and practices.

Main Tasks

  • Liaise with the Cover Organiser, on a daily basis, to receive instructions on cover required.
  • Collect teaching resources as directed by the absent teacher or Head of Faculty and ensure adequate work is available for students.
  • Communicate the work set to the students, ensuring that the learning outcomes are clearly understood.
  • Provide positive encouragement and support to students throughout the lesson ensuring that they are on task at all times.
  • Maintain a calm working environment, ensuring that the college’s Behaviour Policy is followed, using On Call system if necessary.
  • Ensure Health & Safety guidelines are followed in the classroom.
  • Collect completed work from students at the end of the lesson. Label clearly and leave at a designated point for the teacher on his/her return.
  • Ensure resources provided for the lesson are returned by students and appropriately stored.
Ensure the classroom is left neat and tidy by students, ready for the next lesson.

Qualifications
And Experience

Sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to carry out the duties of the post.
Attended or willing to attend half day/full day courses on aspects of the curriculum e.g. literacy, numeracy, ICT, behaviour management, etc.

GCSE IN English and Maths or equivalency

Skills

Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to manage behaviour of students to maintain order and a calm working environment.
Ability to motivate the students.
