General Information for all people applying to work at Crown Hills Community College.
Crown Hills Community College (CHCC) is a comprehensive school of some 1200 students, boys and girls, aged 11-16, serving an inner city area of Leicester that boasts a very ethnically diverse population. It is a very popular school that is over subscribed, having a nationally sustained improvement record over several years.
The Lead Inspector commented after the recent inspection in May, 2012 “This is a good school that has maintained its position since the last inspection”. This is particularly pleasing because the college was inspected under the new and far more rigorous framework. Thus to be judged “good” again, in reality means we have made excellent progress since the last inspection.
The college has evolved from a Beacon School to its present status of Leading Edge School gaining other accolades such as Investors in People Award , Careermark, Healthy Schools and Fair Trade status.
Built in 1950, the original school campus has expanded to suit its needs, housing the state of the art ICT City Learning Centre. We are currently undergoing a £20 million new build under the Building Schools for the Future programme (BSF) which will open in October 2013.
As part of the new school, Crown Hills has received additional funding from the English Cricket Board to build an 8 court sports hall which will act as a centre of excellence for cricket.
In July 2004 CHCC was granted Sports College status, working towards both Excellence in Sport and Health Related Fitness as activities in their own right, but also vital ingredients to overall academic success.
Crown Hills Community College exists to provide an excellent education for the area it serves; we believe that Crown Hills students are entitled to the best education and a chance of real achievement. We aim to foster good relationships amongst the students themselves, and between students and staff, guiding and giving them skills that enable them to make informed and sensible decisions in all aspects of their lives, so that they become confident, caring and competent citizens. We aim to empower tomorrow’s global citizens with the courage to be innovative, independent and responsible and the wisdom to be successful, healthy and happy.
The recent inspection report states “The college makes good use of its sports specialism in promoting leadership values and making links with the wider and international community, which enhance students’ experience”.
“Lessons, assemblies, tutor time and extra curricular activities all contribute significantly to the sense of harmony and common purpose so evident in the college”.
“Students value learning and are justly proud of their college”.
“Students are very supportive and proud of their college. They greatly enjoy being members of this harmonious and friendly college”.
One student said to the Lead Inspector “We are from many different cultures but we all have the same values”.
“Students safety is given a high priority”.
“The high levels of tolerance and respect that students show each other and staff are an exemplary feature of the college”.
“Students make good progress in their work”.
