International Women's Day 2024

There was lots going on in school this International Women's Day!

There was lots going on in school this International Women's Day!

We started #InternationalWomensDay with students learning about Leicester suffragette, Alice Hawkins, during Year 9's Morning Mastery session!

At lunch time, we held a poetry reading session in the library. A few weeks prior to the event students were given speeches from influential women in society. This included Michelle Obama, female doctors and the Lionesses. We had students from Year 7 and 8 taking part. They had been practising their speeches and presented them well. It takes a lot of courage to stand up and read aloud in front of your peers. We were so impressed with how both boys and girls read the speeches with such passion.

Staff also celebrated International Women's Day by wearing t-shirts. Together we can "forge a gender equal world".

Finally, we had several girls-only sporting opportunities throughout the day. At lunch time our clubs were girls only and the girls enjoyed badminton and basketball. Some of our Year 8 girls took part in the girls football leadership conference with other city schools. They left inspired to carry on with football in the future and pass on their new skills.
